Kosher Jewish Wedding at Masseria San Nicola in Puglia

Organizing a kosher Jewish wedding at Masseria San Nicola in Puglia means blending the authentic beauty of southern Italy with the depth of a ceremony rich in symbolism and tradition. Sublimae and their team designed and directed the perfect wedding for Nastasia and Jeremy at Masseria San Nicola — a celebration full of youth, joy, delicious food, and great music.

Kosher Jewish Wedding at Masseria San Nicola: THE JEWISH WEDDING RITE

A Jewish wedding traditionally takes place under the chuppah, a ceremonial canopy that represents the couple’s new home, open on all four sides as a symbol of hospitality. The bride and groom are usually accompanied to the chuppah by live music and their parents.
Once under the canopy, the ceremony begins, following several important steps:

The Kiddushin (engagement): the rabbi recites blessings over a cup of wine, which the couple shares. This marks the transition from engagement to marriage.

The giving of the ring: the groom places a ring on the bride’s finger while reciting a traditional phrase that seals their union according to Jewish law. In modern traditions, the bride may also give a ring to the groom.

The Ketubah: this is the marriage contract, written and signed before the ceremony, and read aloud during the ceremony. It formally expresses the groom’s commitments to his bride and their shared future.

The Sheva Brachot (Seven Blessings): these are recited by chosen friends or family members, praising God and celebrating love, joy, and the creation of a new home. They are the spiritual heart of the ceremony.

The breaking of the glass: one of the most iconic moments. The groom (sometimes both spouses) breaks a glass with his foot, in memory of the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem. It also reminds us that even in our happiest moments, life includes sorrow.
Immediately after, all guests shout “Mazel Tov!”, which means “Good luck” or “Congratulations.”

After the ceremony, it’s tradition for the couple to be welcomed with dances and joyful celebrations, including the Hora, a traditional dance where the couple is lifted on chairs by their guests.

Kosher Jewish Wedding at Masseria San Nicola: WHAT DOES KOSHER MEAN?

In the context of food, the word kosher refers to anything that complies with the kashrut, the Jewish dietary laws outlined in the Torah.

In a kosher Jewish wedding, following these rules is essential—not just for dietary reasons, but as a deeply spiritual commitment. This means that the catering and entire food preparation process must follow strict guidelines, including: Separation of meat and dairy at all stages: storage, preparation, cooking, and serving. Approved meats only: from animals permitted by Jewish law, slaughtered according to the ritual shechitah. Only certified kosher ingredients, including wine, must be used—approved by a rabbinical authority. Often, a mashgiach (kosher supervisor) is present to oversee the entire process and ensure all standards are met.

NASTASIA AND JEREMY’S WEDDING

Nastasia and Jeremy are a French couple with a rich cultural background. Nastasia, with Italian roots, chose to celebrate her wedding in Puglia to reconnect with her heritage. Together, they envisioned an event that was deeply authentic, respectful of Jewish traditions, yet spontaneous, real, and free from artificiality.

This is why they asked us to document their kosher Jewish wedding at Masseria San Nicola in Puglia entirely in reportage style—no interruptions, no staged moments. Even the couple portraits, which are usually planned and posed, were not scheduled. The few images of the two of them together, captured among the olive trees at sunset, were genuine stolen moments—raw, intimate, and unfiltered.
